World first in online ad (apparently)

27 Feb

Apologies already for the slightly over-hyped title of this blog post. I don’t often (or ever) get excited about banners, but I’m truly loving the Cadbury ‘dancing eyebrows’ ad which is live today on the MSN homepage. Good Friday fun. The expandable ad allows users to film themselves directly from the ad, submit their video for approval, and have their video appear on the MSN homepage. All you need is a web cam to join in the fun! This really involves people in the brand.

It got even better for me when I took a screen grab for my blog and saw none other than Charlie Cannell (my boss) jiggling his eyebrows on the homepage of MSN. Awesome…

Slightly annoying though that you can’t embed or take away the videos with you. Surely it would make the content travel further?

Was there no way to spread the content? Odd – seems like a metric of success would have been in the spreadability of the content. Oh well.
