My first blog b-day
January 29, 2008

Picture from here.
Yes that’s right, today I am just 1 in the world of blogging! Wowser. On January 29th 2007 I decided to start a blog - mainly because I was constantly emailing around “stuff” and thought it might make sense to put all these random thoughts of mine into a blog. And to my surprise some people actually read it!
So it all started as simply a destination for my ramblings, I had no idea I was about to embark on an exciting journey of learning and growing, but most importantly connecting with lots of interesting people - in the virtual and real world. And I feel this journey of mine has only just begun.
A lot has changed in a year - I moved around a bit and finally found my feet at AMV BBDO, made it into the top 27 bloggers under 27 (at the tender age of 23!), and worked on some innovative campaigns (e.g. Guinness). And there’s a hellova lot more to look forward to in the coming year.
So thanks, as always, for reading, commenting, sharing, linking.
Did I just blog about blogging? Shame on me…
Participatory technology
January 25, 2008
Ok, so I seem to have a bit of a thing for posting cool digital stuff “beyond the banner” so to speak - Philips ‘Daylight’ concept and Elle MacPhersons interactive storefront for example. What can I say, media convergence just gets me rather excited. (Loser I hear you say?!)
I just stumbled across another uber cool example - it’s called “gesture based technology” from Orange. At first glance it does look like just another slick touch-screen interface, but this one is different! You don’t even need to touch it to activate it, you only need to wave your hands, hence “gesture based technology”.
Apparently it’s bit of a technological first, but I’m not quite sure about that. Philips ‘Daylight’ reacts to your movements and the Elle Macpherson thing uses a nifty bit of technology called Human Locator in the storefront that tracks full body movement in real-time. It’s not like the technology itself is mind blowing, it’s just that it’s smart and simple and depends heavily on consumer participation which is why I like it. It demonstrates a cultural shift as consumers are actively seeking entertaining experiences across dispersed media platforms. Goodbye passive media…

Gruesome advertising
January 14, 2008
Is Deathproof’s advertising as distasteful as the movie?! I believe so! I really think bloody limbs in public places is a pretty disgusting form of advertising. I’m assuming they did it to spark controversy, and so I guess they’ve succeeded there…

Emotional cities - how are you feeling?
January 8, 2008
Has anyone else been struggling to get into the swing of things this new year?! I swear, I can’t tell my Twitter from my Pownce…
Anyways, check out this wicked artistic Swedish project called Emotional Cities. Sounds like it’s been up since end of last year, so I’m probably late catching on, as ever. It’s great. You participate online and grade your emotional state from purple to red - I’m about a yellow right now. And they’ve got a widget which makes it easy to share.
But of course…they bring this to life in the real world with light installations on buildings. A great way of expressing how everyone is feeling. I just love it!
